Mark and John, the show notes are a great addition, so helpful for reviewing specific points, thanks for the upgrade. Question: will they be applied to the archives? There is so much good information buried there it would be a shame if they are not included.
Thanks again for all the effort at putting this podcast out to us, still the best!

This is all such great information. But am wondering where to start for either the cocktail or the whole mix. Obviously one can’t do it all or s/he would be standing around swallowing things for hours, and seeking supplemental income sources to support it! 🙂
A suggestion for some probably-original research (because so little has been done): medicinal mushrooms as sources of adaptogens, trace minerals, and micro-nutrients. Available literature hints at a rich potential here.

    • Hi Cynthia,

Totally understand how challenging it is to find good scientific references here as clinical data is limited. (good review at See Mattman et al BCMJ May 2011 http://www.bcmj.org/sites/default/ les/ BCMJ_53_Vol4_core2_table2.GIF). These are largely unchartered waters with a great deal of mounting anectdotal support. It can also be pricey as you note. A good starting place:
vitacost.com: Co-Q10, Alpha lipoic acid and L-acetyl carnitine (in one formulation) – 1 cap twice daily for 1 month then 1/day (take with 8-10 oz water)
Lipid replacement factor i.e., NT Factor (NutriCology) – 2 tabs/twice daily
      BioPQQ 20 mg – 1/day
Together these would cost approx $70/mo using vitacost.
I would try this for at least 2-3 months, monitoring what is most specific for you e.g. pain, energy, brain fog.

A more precise approach would require having a functional medicine provider (if an option…providers are in a provider database at http://www.functionalmedicine.org
They would consider a urine organic acid testing profile and base specific Rx on your results.

Understanding that may not be an option, I would start with the above.

Agree with the potential for medicinal mushrooms to significantly alter health as adaptagens, immune enhancers, and as a rich source of phytonutrients. This is a great topic for further consideration.

      I hope this helps.

      Mark

  3. I’ve been browsing on-line greater than 3 hours nowadays, but I never
found any fascinating article like yours. It
is beautiful price enough for me. Personally, if all site
owners and bloggers made excellent content as you did,
the internet will likely be much more helpful than ever before.

Thanks for all the great info, now more helpful than ever with the Show Notes (which are searchable!). The YouTube videos are great too. I was surprised to see that you are speaking extemporaneously and not from notes. Regurgitated data are a dime a dozen these days — what is invaluable is wisdom (finding the best data, digesting them, and suggesting how to apply them to daily life well ahead of the scientific method “proof,” which may not be forthcoming till we’re all in the grave). You two have wisdom in spades, and that distinguishes you and sets you apart.

In the context of talking about Resveratrol, John referenced the important role of caloric restriction/intermittent fasting and a ketogenic diet. I adopted the practice of a 16-18 hour IF twice a week after getting introduced to that topic in your 6/21/15 podcast. (I’ve since seen many references in the press to IF but would probably have dismissed this concept had not you given it your imprimatur.) It would be great if sometime you could talk about ketogenic diet in a podcast. What is especially helpful to me is mentioning alternative ways this can be incorporated into daily life, including a “dip a toe into the water” option with options for taking the concept to the next level later.
